I am Crystal Cannon. I was born and raised in Detroit, MI. I come from a proud, hard-working, respectable African-American family. I am the first in my family to graduate from college. I studied French at Wayne State University. I have a Master's Degree in Library Science. I spent 15 years teaching at Renaissance High School, a Blue Ribbon, nationally recognized high school in Detroit. I currently teach at Cass Technical High School, an International Baccalaureate School and I've taught several semesters at Schoolcraft College. I have been a longtime member of the AATF, the Alliance française, MiWLA and ACTFL. I have also been the recipient of several National Endowment for the Humanities Scholarships to travel and study in France. I am a wife and a mother. After the early death of my mother, I adopted my 2 younger sisters and raised them to adulthood. Then my husband and I had our own daughter, Chloe, 7 years ago. I love teaching French and have dedicated my life to spreading my love of French language and culture. I hope to help in any way I can to continue the tradition that has been so graciously shared with me.
My name is Towela Okwudire. I am proud Zambian-Canadian who now makes home in Ann Arbor Michigan with my husband and two kids. I studied French at the University of British Columbia, and soon after completed a second bachelor's in Education with a minor in C&I. I am completing my MA French literature at the University of Toledo in Ohio as well as my MEd at the University of Alberta. I teach French at the historical Roeper School for gifted learners in Birmingham, Michigan, and work amongst a very varied and unique group of learners. I also teach community Adult French for the city of Ann Arbor. It has been a journey and a privilege to be able to share the best that research in our teaching practice has to offer to these students. I am a huge proponent of connecting and building community with other French teachers as I believe it is an important part of the sustainment and improvement of French programs here in the U.S. I am excited to participate this year in our local AATF chapter and build on the traditions that our officers and members past and present have so carefully preserved!
